Bleaching earth is usually a gray-beige powder based on aluminosilicates (clays of natural origin), used for purification-refining-clarification of oils, fats, hydrocarbons, etc. Quite often they are offered as activated grades (where activation means various treatments to change the structure or surface of the clay in order to increase its efficiency), also they can be combined with activated carbon; again to increase their effectiveness.
